How many bots are on X, and how active is it?
Bot-prevalence estimates disagree because they measure different populations with different methods. The last officially confirmed activity figure predates the platform going private.

READING THE NUMBERS
Why the bot figures disagree
There is no single agreed bot percentage for X, and that is the honest answer. The company's own filings count only monetizable accounts and use a definition that excludes many automated-but-permitted accounts. Academic studies count active accounts and classify them with machine-learning detectors, which catch more automation and so report higher shares. Studies that measure tweets rather than accounts report higher numbers again, because a small share of highly active automated accounts can produce a large share of posts. When a source cites a bot percentage, the question to ask is what population it measured and in which year.
Since X went private in 2022 it no longer publishes audited daily-active-user or tweets-per-day figures, so most current numbers are estimates derived from ad tools, app-store panels, or survey data rather than confirmed platform disclosures. Treat any post-2022 figure as an estimate and check the method behind it.
